Finally... An answer!

You know, they say knowing is better than not knowing... I am being reminded of that feeling right now. Long story short, it appears that The Snickerdoodle Cafe will not be making its official appearance until spring 2008--at least not at the location we've been trying to work with.

To say the least I'm very bummed since I REALLY wanted to have the space open for my favorite festive season--holiday baking! But, I gotta admit, knowing is better than sitting and stewing!

OF COURSE, I will still be working on recipes, mischief, tastings, product ideas, etc. and I will still be using this blog to keep everyone up-to-date on my adventures in the kitchen.

Over the next few months, if you happen to have an event or project that requires something sweet to eat, please let me know. I'd love to help you out!

Until next time... Happy Baking!

Golly... It's a GATOR!

Well, though I've been waiting for an answer, the kitchen has been open for adventure... (I've got to have something to keep me from going batty!)

Anyway, some really fun people I met while working at HCA Physician Services were having an open house and needed some sweets. In addition to the cream puffs and brownie bites, I had the privilege to create their cake--an alligator based on the groups' mascot!

Here's my interpretation of a grinning gator in a swamp of sweets... :)
Unitl next time... Happy Baking!

And we're waiting....

and waiting... and waiting some more...

Apparently good contractors must be really busy here--or just really really slow. We're currently waiting on the chosen contractor to finish up two jobs so that we can have his attention again.

I don't mean to be a fuddy-duddy, but while I'd like to have high hopes I am actually very very guardedly optimistic until we have a signed agreement and progress on the restoration process has begun. That's when I will get very very giddy with excitement...

In the mean time, I'm stilling baking... trying out recipes, experimenting with flavors, etc. If you have any real favorites you'd love to share, let me know... You just may become my taste tester for that particular adventure! :)

Hope to have something exciting to tell in the not so distant future! But until then, happy baking...

If patience is a virtue....

then I'm in serious serious trouble! Okay, we're at least making progress. We're still talking and trying to figure out how to make things work in a mutually beneficial way. In theory we have an agreement, but we're still waiting on the contractor to finalize his bid to make the improvements and make sure they meet everyone's needs. All that said... we potentially could be open by November 5!!! Just in time for the holiday baking season... I can smell the pumpkin pie, gingerbread, and sugar cookies already. I'd so be happy as a clam if we could pull that off! :)

In the mean time... Thank you for your notes of encouragement. I appreciate the interest and the support. It helps, since I'm so not good at being patient!

Until next time, happy baking!

Just here crawling the walls...

My title today is two-fold...

As promised, one of this weeks accomplishments is a Spiderman cake... Here he is... still not perfect, but I think he resembles the web-slinging wall-crawler...

The second meaning is simply based on the fact that I'm so not a patient person... I'm still waiting for an answer or guidance on the space. Apparently the costs to bring the space up to code was quite a bit more than the property management group has in mind. We're supposed to talk sometime today.
Keep your forks and knives crossed!

Until next time, happy baking!

Teaching an old dog new tricks...

I gotta tell you, I used to think I was somewhat adept at technology, but I've finally hit a wall. I'm trying some of the new technologies--blogs, blackberries, and social networking sites--and I guess I'm finally getting old. It's taking me forever to figure out how to make things work!

That said, welcome to my blog--Life at The Snickerdoodle Cafe. I'm hoping to keep everyone posted on the progress of my adventures in entrepreneurship. Eventually, I'll have a full functioning website complete with menus, orders, etc. However, right now, I'm just trying to get the business up and running!

So... to my many new Nashville friends I'm hoping to bring you wonderful sandwiches, salads, snacks, soups, and sinfully delicious desserts soon. I hope to have a final answer on the building space on Thursday. Until then, keep your forks and knives crossed that it all works out.

Lions and tigers and bears... OH MY!
In the past couple of weeks, my adventures in the kitchen have taken on a new slant... custom, sculpted cakes of the animal persuasion.

Last weekend was a lion; this weekend's was a bear... Anyone needing a tiger?!?! I'm sure I can work on it!

I'm totally enjoying making the sculpted cake adventures. I'm not exactly Duff and the crew from Ace of Cakes, but eventually I'll get there. Later this week, I'm working on Spiderman... Keep the crazy requests coming! I love the challenge... Until next time,

Happy Baking
